In the Spring of 2017, Arrowfield Stud will welcome 3 new stallions to their roster, Real Impact and Mikki Isle, both sons of Japanese super stallion, Deep Impact; and Maurice, a son of Screen Hero.

It is no coincidence that all three of these stallions descend from the Hail To Reason sireline as all three are ‘considered choices’ by Arrowfield Stud to find stallions for daughters of their aging superstar, Redoutes Choice and his sons.

​

In this short analysis, I will explain the link that I believe Arrowfield Stud has identified in these particular representatives of the Hail To Reason sireline.

​

Lets start with Maurice, a stallion by Screen Hero ex Mejiro by Carnegie. Maurice is identically bred to another outstanding performer by Screen Hero, Gold Shenlong ex Chief Ballerina by Chief Bearhart.

Maurice's 2nd dam and Gold Shenlong's 3rd dam are both daughters of Mogami, a Lyphard stallion who traces tf to Big Hurry, a daughter of evergreen La Troienne and Black Toney.

Now let’s look at Mikki Isle by Deep Impact ex Star Isle who traces tf to My Bupers by Bupers from the Black Toney sireline ex Busanda by War Admiral ex Businesslike, another daughter of La Troienne.

We can connect Mogami in Maurice and My Bupers in Mikki Isle in a successful mating by the partnership of US based Gainesway Farm & Crescent Farm to produce outstanding racehorse Lyphards Special, winner of the Champagne Stakes and September Stakes. Lyphards Special is by Lyphard ex My Bupers.

We are now left to analyse Real Impact by Deep Impact ex Tokio Reality by Meadowlake who traces tf to Be Suspicious with 2x Man O War, sire of War Admiral and a daughter of Bimelech by Black Toney ex La Troienne. Real Impact is also inbred 5mx5f to Nothirdchance, a mare from the Black Toney sireline and 3x4 to Man O War.

(Real Impact also carries a duplication of lines carrying important full siblings, but alas for my readers, I must keep some secrets to myself….…)

Now to Redoutes Choice and his sire sons who stand alongside him at Arrowfield Stud. Redoutes Choice descends tf to Best In Show who, like Be Suspicious, carries 2x Man O War and whose 2nd dam is by Mr Busher by War Admiral ex Baby League, a daughter of La Troienne.

 

The common lines then repeat and combine, within and between the pedigrees of Arrowfield’s new stallion recruits. But why should Arrowfield be so confident that they have chosen to stand all three of these stallions?

No doubt they are aware of the unbeaten performance of 2017 Royal Ascot heroine, September, a daughter of Deep Impact, and like Redoutes Choice, a descendent of Best In Show, or Aquis Farm's, Domesday, or INS’s ill-fated, Big Bad Bob, or Vinery's outstanding, More Than Ready….all with identical crosses of Hail To Reason over La Troienne.

But surely the primary source of their confidence must be the 2008 cover of Deep Impact with the mare, Donna Blini by Bertolini ex Cal Norma’s Lady. That filly foal became the outstanding Gentildonna, Japanese Triple Crown Winner; 2012 JRA Horse of the Year and Best Three-Year-Old Filly; 2013 JRA Best Older Filly or Mare; 2014 JRA Horse of the Year and Best Older Filly or Mare; and 2016 JRA Hall of Fame inductee.

In Gentildonnas pedigree this analysis comes full circle and connects all the proverbial dots because Gentildonna’s second dam is by Lyphards Special, that single line that confirms and combines Maurice with Mikki Isle and Real Impact and daughters of Arrowfield’s great Redoutes Choice and his sons with the Hail To Reason sireline.
